Description:
Black Patch PCSM (Permanent Cold Lay Material) is a pre-packed cold lay macadam manufactured with a purpose
designed bitumen emulsion binder, together with a high PSV aggregate.
Designed principally with highway repairs and reinstatement in mind, Black Patch PCSM offers an optimum combination
of resistance to deformation and storage life, and being in pre-packed form, reduces waste on site to a minimum.
From November 1997, the formulation for the PCSM has been approved by HAUC as a permanent material, in any
position in all footway, footpath and cycle track reinstatements.
Aggregate:
Black Patch PCSM wearing course is produced with hardstone aggregate, Polished Stone Value (PSV) 60+.
Grading:
Black Patch PCSM is produced using 6mm aggregate to British Standard grading.
Binder:
The binder incorporated in Black Patch PCSM is manufactured from penetration grade bitumen. The binder has also
been approved to HAUC speci?cations.
Laying & Compaction:
Black Patch PCSM is workable at ambient temperature, however, the warmer the temperature the more workable the
material becomes.
Before use in cold weather, it is best to store material undercover overnight.
Layer thickness, compaction and edge sealing should be to the recommendations as appropriate to HAUC or Appendix
7/70 Speci?cation for Highway works.
As a guide Black Patch PCSM should be laid between 20-25mm nominal thickness (but not less than 10mm) in any part
of a repair. At 20mm compacted thickness one bag of PCSM will cover approximately 0.75m2.
The product should be thoroughly compacted to achieve optimum performance. It is unlikely that adequate compaction
will be achieved by hand, and mechanical methods should be utilised.
Black Patch PCSM should not be laid in standing water or at ground temperatures at or below freezing.
Packaging:
Black Patch PCSM is supplied in polythene ?lm major packs – (approx 25kg) palletised 50 bags (1.25 tonnes) per pallet
and shrink-wrapped.
Storage:
In undamaged unopened packs PCSM will remain workable for up to 6 months. Product should be protected from
frost.
