Costa de Azahar in Summer: Benicassim
Benicassim is a modest town along the Costa de Azahar and the summer months are naturally, a wonderful time to visit the region in Spain. You can find several Costa de Azahar hotels there. The main event that the town has come to be known for is the Festival Internacional de Benicassim – a music festival that is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most important to the world of indie rock, pop and electronic music.
In the past, international powerhouses such as Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Lou Reed, The Killers and Oasis have graced the festival’s stages and unlike many festivals of its kind, the music starts late and carries on until morning. Upon Pico Bartolo (Mt. Bartolo) is the spiritual sanctuary founded by the Carmelites in the late 1600s. The term desert doesn’t imply the landscape so much as it refers to a place of spiritual significance where the monks of the monastery can meditate in peaceful reverence.
Benicassim and the entire Costa Azahar region is a prime locale to soak up the summer months during a Costa de Azahar holiday. For festival-goers and music fans, the annual bash on the beach is a must-attend event. For those who prefer things a little quieter, there is plenty to see and do, from taking in the local cuisine to exploring the natural splendor of the region.
