taking the dog to the beach….?
My man and I and the dog (who’s a 3 pound maltese, you know, the ones with long white hair and pale pink skin) are going to VA beach in late september, well be camping at one of the nearby sites. Other than the obvious, lots of doggy sunscreen and bug repellent and food, what do you think we should take? I have water, food, toys, sunscreen, bug repellent, treats, shot records, leashes and collars, I.D. Tags. What do you think I’m missing other than that?
Oh yea, forgot the kennel! Thx 4 mentioning it! Also the dog doesn’t much like car rides the only way we can get him to settle for a ride is by allowing him on our lap, which I don’t find sefe. He won’t stay in the backseat if we put him there, I have a pet taxi but I think it would be cruel to keep him in it for a 7 hour drive, any suggestions?
Have you a crate to confine your dog when it is night time or are you relying on it sleeping with you.Dogs are notorious about getting out on holidays and if she is not micro-chipped and gets lost chances are you will have a hard time finding the dog.
Make sure all your immunization is up to date and that includes rabies if you are going to a rabies area and also worming and check for heart worm as l am pretty sure that area will be prone to that as well As you cannot just start to give your dog heart worm prevention just before you go as you will need blood test first.Unfortunately l do not honk the States have the heart worm prevention injection yet so that is a pity.
Make sure you take plenty of shade for your dog as maltese can get sunburn like you even with sunscreen and be careful what sunscreen you use as most human ones are not used on dogs.
Camping with dogs in permitted areas is always fun but as there will be many dogs there as said above make sure all shots up to date plus you have been giving your dog constant flea prevention as well.
