Military enlistment..?
So i’m only 17 but it’s about time i start thinking about what i would like to do for a career. I’m pretty good in school but i absolutely hate it. The big reason why i go to a technical school was to get out of classes. My shop is electrical. And i pretty much don’t’ like the whole idea of going to college… so i wanted to chose a field. Since the economy went down the hole i wanted to look into what choices i have in the military. I was more leading towards the air force or navy so basically i don’t get shipped off to Iran. but also i believe those branches are more career oriented. what options would i have in my electrical field if i joined. I’m also an Eagle Scout. I’ve heard it moves you up a rank after boot camp. Some jobs and any encouraging info would be great.

My names also Adam, don’t say you want to join a specific branch cause of deployment, anyone within the armed forces is subject to be deployed at any moment, and deployment doesn’t mean being shipped off to the “Front lines”, with a rifle.
In any case you’re correct, the Air Force and Navy are the most career-oriented branches, not the others aren’t because after serving you get $60K in G.I. Bill no matter the branch but because they have more specialized technical jobs.
The Air Force is more technical than all the others, it has the CCAF or Community College of the Air Force which is the largest community college in the world, everyone who enlist in the AF is enrolled in it at no cost and it’s regionally accredited so the diploma is worth something. But keep in mind the diplomas they award arent meant to be turned into Bachelors (not all A.A./A.S. degrees can be turned into bachelors). They’re more like over-simplified technical jobs with a fancy name and a 2-year college degree (which is what you’re looking for.
In the Air Force you can be
-Electrical Systems Apprentice (everyday electrician)
-Aerospace Maintenance Operations (airplane mechanic)
-Voice Network Systems (phoneline technician)
