How can I persuade my parents to let me go camping with friends?

Me and my friends want to go camping in the woods, by one of my friends house. There is already a, sort of camp site there. There is like a.. sort of gazebo and a fire pit in middle, so people have camped there before.

If there’s a structure built there then you need to find out who owns the land and get permission first. That will help show that you are being responsible and not abusing someone else’s land rights.

Then make up a list of who will be going, what you plan to bring and what you plan to do, including some way of checking-in with the ‘rents to let them know you’re okay, and some way for the ‘rents to check-up on you if they feel the need. Make sure you have some supplies and plans for any emergencies that might come up, such as a basic first aid kit, shovels and water for tending the fire, plans for what to do if someone gets lost or sick, etc…, and some way to deal with your trash and human waste (i.e., pack it out in garbage bags). Known cell phone coverage would be a start, directions on how to get there, maybe take your dad to show him what’s up.

I would leave out the part about the drinking, in fact, I would leave out the drinking all together. In my experience, there’s always that one person who doesn’t know when he’s had enough and that will spoil things for everyone, sometimes in very dangerous ways. Aside from getting a buzz on, there’s nothing that alcohol will do to enhance your trip other than the outlaw factor, and since it seems you don’t have a lot (or any) camping experience, getting buzzed has the potential to be dangerous.

I let my kids go camping on their own when they were 17. But we had done a lot of camping before hand, including Scouts, so I know they know what to expect and how to handle things. It helped that they were going places that we’d been before and I did check up on them the first couple of times (and randomly thereafter).
