Anyone ever been camping in Maui?
Details, please?
I’m thinking of camping for a couple weeks in January near Baby Beach in West Maui.
1) January is a wet month. Be prepared.
2) Beaches (like parks in big cities) can be high-crime areas. Check before you go.
3) Beaches may have many homeless people “camping” too. Expect neighbors.
4) Baby Beach does not have any facilities. Be prepared.
5) You’ll need a camping permit. 3-day max.
6) Bring mosquito repellent.
The first responder is pulling your leg. There are no (legal) snakes in Hawaii, unless you go to a Zoo. There are Hoary bats, but I’ve never seen any on Maui. (I grew up there and did a lot of camping.) The largest Hoary bat populations are on Kauai and the island of Hawaii. Rats as big as a dog? I’ve seen bigger rats in LA. There are lots of insects. What do you expect? Hawaii is warm and wet. Most of the spiders are harmless. What a wimp.
