im going camping soon and im wanting to take a decent torch, ive seen LED halogen or xenon

One of the brightest is made by surefire. They are used by police forces and military units, they are definitely one of the most rugged and brightest around. With that comes a hefty price tag. Here`s their site: http://www.surefire.com/Flashlights
I would recommend a headlamp. They keep your hands free when working with a map and compass, cooking, digging through your pack, settling in your tent, trying to start a fire. It sur ebeats holding it in your mouth on under your arm or balancing it on a rock. I have the Princeton Tec Eos its waterproof and has 4 brightness settings. It`s also pretty compact but definitely throws a beam that you can use to hike down the darkest trails.
