Planning on camping in Galveston, TX- Whats the laws about campng on the beach?
We want to put up a tent right on the beach..but whats the laws? Do we need to stay at the state park, because I cant find any other camping sites down there that arent RV related. Not our kind of thing. We can also stay at surrounding beaches like Crystal Beach..Jamaica Beach…ETC Thanks yall!
The Bolivar Peninsula is where you want to go. There are over thirty miles of beach to camp on. You can drive on all of the beaches.
After the flashing light when you get off of the ferry(at Fisherman’s Cove motel), go about a mile or so and you will find Rettilon Rd (nolitter backwards). Turn right. It takes you to the beach and a good area to camp.
One thing new is a County Beach Parking Permit. You can buy them at almost any store or real estate office on the Peninsula. It’s only ten bucks. The sheriffs don’t really enforce it unless you are creating trouble or they want to roust you. The permit is not needed for driving on the beach, just parking.
Campfires are allowed but not big bonfires. Don’t camp in front of someone’s beachhouse. It bugs them. Unless you really like to party, avoid the part of the beach in Crystal beach known as the “ZOO”. Sheriffs work this area hard and there are a lot problems there. Remember, no glass containers and no beer after 2am.
Otherwise, just pick a spot, enjoy yourself and be sure to pick up your litter before you leave.
