Strange shooting star?
in february i went to morocco with my school and we camped one night in the Sahara desert. We were looking up at the sky and probably saw about ten shooting stars, when i saw something strange. I told people to look up and everyone had enough time to look up and see it. A slow moving, large, green shooting star went by. It had a red sort of smoke going behind it, I could almost see its shape. I thought it was a meteor coming to hit us but then it went away. It was really wierd. Any idea what it was?
Almost certainly a meteor. I’ve seen the same type you describe and they’re really a sight to see. Someone above said the green color was likely due to a composition of metals in the meteor. I agree with that.
You won’t be able to detect the color of most meteors. This is because our eyes are not sensitive to color in low light. Brighter meteors almost always show color and that color is most often green.
