menu suggestions for deer camp?
i would like to make some special for my husband when he goes to deer camp. does anyone have any suggestions on easy recipes for me to make??
Chilli is always easy to prepare in advance and easy to heat/warm once he gets to camp. Maybe some sort of pasta like the ones shaped like sea shells or elbow macoroni to go along with it. Just be sure to put them into seperate containers, as the pasta tends to suck the liquid from the chilli sause and sort of dries-out the chilli.
Cabbage rolls are another favorite at deer camp. Only thing is, they take an entire day to make. But, they have everything a hunter needs to maintain energy levels and stay warm while hunting.
Something simpler than the above two dishes would be some delicious kielbosa with sour kraut. Most kielbasa is already precooked, so there is less chance of under-cooking it. Just put in in a big pot and heat it slowly the day before he leaves for camp. When he arrives, he can simply reheat it. Have him take along some condiments like ketchup, onions, relish and some good hard rolls to put them on. (Wow, now I am starting to make myself hungry!)
