Which axe should I buy?
I’m looking for a good, mid-sized camp axe for under $40. I am considering Gerber, Buck, Snow & Neilley, Wetterlings, Estwing, and others. What, in your opinion, is the best axe for the money. Feel free to mention any reasonably priced brand.
check out Fiskars, if you think they look like the gerber its because they make the gerber axes, but they cost less and you can usually find them at home depot or any hardware store. I have the little gerber back paxe in my hunting pack, its a great little hatchet, I found out about the fiskars after I got the gerber, could have saved myself $10-$15.
I grew up with estwings, both hammers and axes. they are pretty tough, as long as you don’t lose them they’ll give you 20+ years of service. I still have one I got from my father, she’s rusty but always works. the gerber feels better in the hand but only time will tell if it will hold up.
