Cheap Backpacking – A How to Guide

Cheap backpacking is accomplished in two basic ways? The first is to reduce the cost of travel. The second way is to spend less on buying art. Here are some tips for both.

Cheap Backpackers Team

Do not bother with computer high technology. Is it really important to have a super fiber wick poly t-shirt for when you're walking? Probably not, especially if it is mid- July. Any regular t-shirt bought on sale for a few dollars will work. Otherwise, a cheap plastic poncho can replace the emergency $ 200 breathable / Water-proof suit of rain if the rain is unlikely and it's hot out there. You may want to spend money to improve the speed if you want lighter versions. In this case, you can still save money by putting the next two tips for use.

Look for the agreements. An obvious advice, but easy to forget when you get excited that shiny new computer. Shoes and hiking boots, in particular, can be bought cheap if you look for sale. Apparently some people will not buy the styles of the past year, so $ 90 shoes go on sale for $ 40. Look for the settlement of online vendors and local shoe stores. Thought outdoor clothing is more likely to go on sale, tents, sleeping bags, sometimes at half price when new models come out.

Look for the fishing gear used. Although I never buy used shoes, I found that thrift stores have plenty of jackets that are used in great condition. I've even found decent pants light hiking, sometimes, as well as aluminum pans that are very loose and some teams from other backpackers.

Make your own computer. I know of backpackers who sew their backpacks and sleeping bags. That seems like too much work for me, and I'm not sure the saving would be a lot. However, I have modified cheap pans for backpackers, hats made of old thermal shirt sleeves, bivouac sacks and plastic and tape. And now that I think I made a backpack once from an aluminum frame age and a duffel bag. Was less of a commercial nature under pack for sale at the moment.

Skip the food expensive. It is not necessary to freeze-dried meals to enjoy backpackers. Snacks are a good way to go, and if you really need the ready meals, take simple foods like instant rice.

Backpacking Travel Cheap

Plan your own backpack trips. Although guided walks can be nice, are expensive. Only your own plan. Choose a place, do your research online, and start looking for the cheapest tickets airplane that will get you there.

Go to free places. Many people automatically think of the national parks or other places that have fees when they think of a wilderness experience. But there are many places that are so beautiful and not charge anything. Try national forests hiking trails, for example, or BLM (Bureau of Land Management) land, or state forests. One advantage of this approach – in addition to money savings – is that you will probably find that area less crowded.

Find nearby. For many backpacking trips the cost of reaching the trailhead is the largest spending. Is not there an interesting place to see in an hour or two of where you are? Visit areas and could save a lot of money for travel.

Now put all together. Plan your own trip to a place near the house free and suit yourself with basic clothing bought at thrift stores and equipment bought on sale. That's knapsack cheap.
