What is the best dog harness?
My dog tends to get very excited when in new places and tends to pull on his leash to try to explore. My family sometimes goes hiking,etc and I don’t want my dog to choke himself with the leash.
Also, any tips on getting a dog to walk loose leash all the time would be greatly appreciated.
Wouldn’t the no-pull harness end up hurting the dog’s legs?
I’m not a fan of harnesses at all because they encourage a dog to pull. Think about what sledding dogs use…a harness. Why? Because it gives them more power. That being said, I hear some people say the EasyWalk Harness doesn’t do this, but I can’t see how. I haven’t tried it so I couldn’t tell you.
My preference is a prong or chain collar for training and working up to a flat buckle or snap collar. A great training method to use to train the dog is to stop dead in your tracks every time he pulls. As soon as he relaxes and realizes you aren’t moving forward, you can resume. The second he begins to pull again, stop again. It may take an hour to walk down the street, but if you keep it up, he WILL catch on eventually. The prong or chain collar can help this process but it is important that they are fitted and used properly. You should have a trainer show you how to use one properly.
