Flagstaff, AZ – what are some fun things to do?

I went to college at NAU for a bit, I vacationed in Oak Creek Canyon area a LOT as a child – I know the area for the most part.

I’m looking for some new things to do we’ve never done. I live the downtown area, I also would like to let the kids fish at Lake Mary….but after that I’m not sure.

It may only be a day trip…..or maybe we could rent a place for a weekend or camp…..

Any idea of things to do in the area?
TYPO: I don’t “live” the downtown area….. I LOVE it. oops!
Danny – have you BEEN to Flag? No a/c needed dude. If so, it’s a rare day.
Yeahhhh…we have a pool at home. I’m thinking – things to see, restaurants to go to, touristy attractions. ANYTHING that might be new & entertaining.

Try going up to Lockett Meadow it’s a beautiful place for a picnic with the family, it’s on the backside of the peaks.

***”Drive northeast of Flagstaff on US Highway 89 for 12.5 miles to Forest Road 420 directly across from the Sunset Crater National Monument turnoff. Turn left (west) for about 1 mile to Forest Road 552. Turn right at the Lockett Meadow sign and continue to the campground. The dirt road is closed in early spring and late fall due to snow. This road is not recommended for RVs/trailers due to the very steep, narrow (single lane), and rough road.”***

Also check out Sunset Crater, Walnut Canyon and Wupatki Ruins. They are all roughly located right outside the east side of town.
Also research the “Ice Caves” also known as the “Lava Tubes” they are a neat little family trip. Underground caves that stay around 32 degrees year round. You’d need jackets, good shoes and at least one good flashlight per person.
I’ve included links for 2 of the parks below.
