Light Fishing

Light Fishing
How to decide between a light and ultra-light ice fishing rod and reel combo?

We are just getting started, wanting to do some general ice fishing in north-west Michigan?

If you’re fishing mainly for pan fish, ultra light is definitely the way to go. If you’re going to be fishing for walleye or some other larger game fish, you might want to get the light combo. If you can get an extra spool for the light combo, put 2lb. test on it, and just change to the light line when you’re after pan fish.

Fishing in the Air

Fishing in the Air

$3.48

We were going on a journey, to a secret place. We’d catch the air! We’d catch the breeze!A father and son set out early one morning in search of a cool, clear river in which to fish. With their lines and bobbers, they cast high into the air catching memories, discoveries, and a bubble of breeze and a sliver of sky and a slice of yellow sun. The first picture book by Sharon Creech, Newbery award-winning author of Walk Two Moons, is a lyrical portrait of the bond between a father and son. Caldecott Honor recipient Chris Raschka’s illustrations shimmer in pools of color and light, making Fishing in the Air a beautiful reminder of the gift of imagination a parent passes on to a child — and a child gladly shares in return.AWARDS:Best Children’s Books 2000 (PW) and Lasting Connections 2001 (Book Links)

Fishing in the Maelstrom

Fishing in the Maelstrom

$14.48

?How I fumble about eulogizing a career that never even started ? ? FISHING IN THE MAELSTROM is the first book of poetry by David A. Lowenthal. It was born from a number of private ?Poetic Journals? written over a 20-year span. Though never intended to be published, the book lies here before you. Lowenthal dives into the passion, love, fear, joy, pain, loss, death and dreams of the young poet struggling to find his voice. His poems move from magical to base realism, from rhyming to free verse and structured to non-form without any gate. His poet voice is both brash and eloquent, sometimes in the same stanza. ?You apologize for biting, and I beg you not to stop.? ?And too, that our dusty dreams will play tag in our minds as the light is not bright enough for us to guide them.? You feel an echo of Neruda, cummings, Sexton, Ferlinghetti and Sandburg in his poems. Sometimes they simply lack definition. Perhaps he is a poet of a new age, starkly personal and smashing the molds before him.

Fishing Small Flies

Fishing Small Flies

$19.48

Most small-fly books concentrate on the fly patterns, but presentation and tactics are just as important as the pattern itself. Small-fly fishers must carefully observe the trout and constantly adjust their techniques as they go. Ed Engle covers the difficulty of detecting strikes and how to best play trout caught on small flies and gives advice on the aquatic insect orders and how to fish the hatches, depending on the water and the stage of the hatch. Covered too are special considerations for rods and reels for small-fly fishing and tactics for light tippets. Engle describes fishing specific waters, including tailwaters, freestone rivers, and spring creeks.

Hunting & Fishing Cartoons - Classics

Hunting & Fishing Cartoons – Classics

$12.48

Once in a lifetime an artist rises above the rest to be regarded as the best in his profession. "One of the All-Time Greats." "A Living Classic." Although he won’t admit it, such is the case with cartoonist R. Stubler. Since his early youth he honed his outdoor skills in the hills and streams of Pennsylvania. As he grew to know and love the outdoors he developed a keen eye and appreciation of its wonderful beauty and magnificent animal life. And then he turned it upside down. Armed with pen, paper and a wit as keen as his outdoors knowledge, Stubler’s cartoons began to present this world in a whole new light: where the deer, and bear and turkey constantly outwit the hunter, the fish out angle the angler and Mother Nature herself seems to get in on the joke. Drawn with his trademark, crisp linear style, there is never any need to scratch your chin and think twice to get the laugh. It is right up front (or maybe in the background), and whether you are an everyday outdoorsman or have ever spent even the briefest time hunting or fishing, you might see yourself in some of these situations. As his son, I have been blessed to not only spend time in the woods and waters with him, but also in the studio, where I have seen a cartoon grow from just a quick "thumbnail sketch" to a bonafide "Classic." R. Stubler has been making people laugh for 50 years, and his new cartoons are as fresh and funny as ever. "I don’t know where they come from, but they keep coming," he muses. And that is a wonderful thing for all of us. So, if you are one of the millions of longtime R. Stubler fans, or new to his work, you are going to love this collection of classics. You will treasure it for yourself and want to get copies for your friends and loved ones. Every cartoon in this book is a classic; every laugh an original. Sit back, relax and laugh yourself silly.

From the first time Max attends Jewish Sabbath eve services, he absorbs little by little the essence of the noble heritage denied by his atheistic parents. Employed by a Jewish-owned merchandising firm, Max is victim of reverse discrimination. He realizes that he lives in two worlds: his gentile fishing buddies, and Jewish social friends acquired from his marriage to Ray. From the simple folk-wisdoms of Mama Silberman, his two children’s attending religious schools, and numerous other exposures to the birthright he was denied, Max comes to realize he has ‘wandered though a desert of ethnic wilderness for forty years;’ that he belongs to a community of noble, scholarly, brave and priestly people. After several chapters of droll and humorous anecdotes, Max’s saga concludes with a profound spiritual experience in a Jerusalem beer tavern.

One of America’s best known fishermen with more than 50 years of on-water experience, Bill Dance is also a tournament champion and a television personality. His tips will help any angler catch more and bigger fish. Even experienced fishermen may not know that dark-colored lures work best during low light conditions; that reluctant bass often bite at smaller lures fished slowly; that 75% of all line failures occur at the knot, so good knot tying is essential to success; that when waters rise, bass move shallower—when it falls, they move deeper. Dance’s knowledge is so wide-ranging that absolute beginners and crusty old veteran fishermen alike will be educated and entertained and amazed. This book is being supported by The International Game Fish Association (IGFA), a leading authority on angling and the keeper of fishing’s world record.
