What is the UK law on multi-tool knives?
I travel and camp out a lot and need to get a multi-tool knife/sak/pen knife.
Thing is, if I spend the money buying one, and I get to customs and get it confiscated, I’ll be really annoyed.
So what’s the law on the matter?
Also what’s the law if I’m stop and searched and found one on me?
This depends, if the blade is over 3 inches, you will be arrested for possession of a knife with intent to harm if carried around on the street.
The other problem could occur if you were acting suspicious around a building late at night for example, where if stopped and searched, you might be arrested on suspicion of ‘going equipped’, basically meaning that they suspected that you might have intended to break into a certain location.
As for travelling and camping, keep it in a case and out of sight. Only ever carry a blade in a proper case, and make sure any tools are stored away in a bag or case, and you will be fine.
