Why Personalize Your Child’s Backpack?
Starting school or a new daycare can be a daunting experience for children. Giving them a special backpack or bag can make them feel more at ease. Backpacks are also a great alternative to luggage for overnight trips. Backpacks on wheels can make negotiating the airport, bus or train station easier. Backpacks are a necessity for every child!
There are many styles and types of backpacks to choose from: vinyl backpacks are easy to clean, because you can usually just wipe them down with a damp cloth- they do get a little stiff in the colder weather. Quilted backpacks feel soft to the touch and are often lighter weight- we do find that sometimes they are a bit smaller.
Stephen Joseph go-go bags (backpacks) are large enough to hold a school-sized folder and small books. They close with a zipper for added security.
You can also find backpacks with removable figures, and messenger bags that may work better for your child.
A personalized backpack is also a nice way to make a child feel special. Children are all unique; they are special and that is why we give them a name. So what is in a name? A name tells a child they are valued and they are an individual. No word is more special to a child than their name. We suggest you celebrate your child’s name by having it monogrammed on their bag. Please note, we do NOT suggest children who walk to and from school have their name monogrammed on their bag.
Backpack safety is something that is often overlooked. Aside from stranger danger for children who are not with an adult while wearing their backpack, the weight of a backpack can impact a child’s physical health. Imagine your child is 50 pounds and their backpack and supplies weighs 10 pounds. Pound for pound that is like asking a 150 pound mother to carry 30 pounds strapped to her back. You can see that it may be difficult or cause back pain. Limiting the weight of a child’s backpack to 15-20% of their bodyweight is suggested by The American Academy of Pediatrics.
