Safari Pricing Overview
What Should I Expect to Pay for an East African Safari?
Trying to compare the price of a safari holiday is like trying to compare apples and oranges. Budgets vary as do safari duration and desired experience, and the old adage sticks; you really do get what you pay for. With the multitude of offerings out there generally something that is too good to be true probably is.
Here are is an example of what you can expect to pay for a 10 day safari:
• Value accommodation (schedule tour): USD2,500 – USD3,500 per person, excluding international flights
• Mid-range accommodation (fly in safari): USD3,500 – USD5,500 per person, excluding international flights
• Top-end accommodation (private guided basis): USD7,500 and above per person, excluding international flights
Inclusions and Exclusions
The pricing above represents an estimated fully inclusive price of all ground logistics whilst on safari. (including accommodation, transportation, meals, local beverages, guide fees, park fees and local flights) and exclude international flights.
When comparing different safari options, it pays to be a stickler for the detail to ensure you get what you pay for (i.e what exactly is included and excluded, where the camp is located, full board (FB) versus bed and breakfast (BB), what is the best season for travel to that particular area, the low season as opposed to peak season advantages, what is the ratio of staff to guests, are guide and porter fees included or excluded etc)
Quality of Accommodation
Our pricing is some of the most competitive in the industry and discounts of 5-10% can be achieved when booking with us versus booking directly with the safari lodge or safari outfitter due to our bulk buying and discounted rates that we have from our suppliers.
However, the biggest factors in determining the price of your safari is the level of accommodation chosen and the time of year travel (please see seasonal price differences below).
Prices Quoted on this website
In many places on this website you will see “Price: USD4,000 pps*” These prices are not a quoted rate, but rather an indication rate based on high season travel and are there to give an indication of what to expect to pay.
Peak season rates (generally July and August) will be as much as 30% higher, whilst low season rates (generally April and May) can be as much as 30% cheaper than high season rates.
Our Price Guarantee
Although our clients book with us due to the superior service they receive and the exceptionally competitive rates we offer, we also realize how important it is getting the best possible deal on your vacation. On certain areas of this website you will see our “Best Rate Guarantee”. Basically, if you are considering booking with a competitor of ours due to a discrepancy in the rates we quoted, send us their offer and challenge us to beat their rate, you won’t be disappointed info@safari365.com
Seasonal Price differences
Safari pricing differences in high season versus low season is primarily driven by visitor volumes from international travel markets (north American and European summer holidays) and not necessarily game viewing quality.
For the traveler that is flexible with their travel dates, it is possible to have a greatly discounted safari without sacrificing the quality of the safari experience. For example, traveling to the Ngorongoro Crater during off season will give a far less crowded game viewing at least a 30% discount. (I.e. be one of a handful of vehicles at a lion kill as opposed to one of 25)
Group Travel Discounts
On private guided safaris, transport is costed per vehicle and not per person. Small groups of passengers can generally get greater value by traveling with friends as opposed to alone (we understand that this may not work when traveling on your honeymoon..)
Safari Calender:
East Africa Travel Guide & When to go on Safari
Our East Africa travel guide is intended for you to use as a guideline as to when it is the best time to visit East Africa’s National Parks and Game Reserves. Please contact your consultant for seasonal changes to this calendar.
East Africa is situated on the equator, so there are not large differences between winter and summer temperatures and the days have more or less the same amount of sunlight. The coast can be relatively humid and inland it could get cold due to the high altitude.
There are two traditional rain seasons, the long rains fall during the months of April and May and short rains fall between October and November.
The Serengeti plains are +-2000m above sea level with an temperature ranging from10 to 20 degrees Celsius. During mid winter the evenings and mornings are often chilly, the Ngorongoro Crater at +- 2200 m above sea level could drop to below freezing during June / July.
The closer to the coast you get the hotter and the more humid with Zanzibar experiencing almost unbearable humidity during the summer months, so please bear this in mind when planning your beach holiday and choose a lodge offering fans and air conditioning.
