Ideal for a camping trip: Arizona, Utah and Colorado … or Oregon, Washington and British Columbia?

A friend and I will take some time next month camping trip by car and is one of those two trips. It seems as if they were to be very different. The AZ / UT / CO road would probably see the Grand Canyon in Arizona, the canyon region of southeastern Utah (Arches National Park, etc.), then the mountains of Colorado. In addition, the OR / WA / BC road would involve many forest areas, national parks, Crater Lake, ocean stuff, etc. We are divided between both, as the AZ / UT / CO path would be new for us, but it will be in August and wondering if our car, or roast in a tent in these areas can take great time of it (no recreational vehicles with A / C for us). Which would you choose?
