my question is in a criminal court what dose it mean when your case is set for evidence exchange?
well i picked up a charge and they sent me a letter that says this is to inform you that you case is set for evidence exchange what dose that mean what going to happen when i go to court?? thanks for any help
The first answer is right, but not really complete
Evidence exchange is scheduled when the prosecutor has new evidence, usually evidence of more serious charges. In about 95% of the cases scheduled for evidence exchange, new charges are brought within a couple of weeks. The prosecutor probably has more evidence of additional instances of the same crime, or of additional charges related to that crime. Or maybe he has learned of an entirely unrelated crime from his investigating team.
That is what happens when the detectives start probing for evidence–they often find evidence of additional crimes. You could find that a simple misdemeanor has become a string of major felony charges because one of your “friends” has turned you in.
