How to Become a SWAT Team Officer – Learn What You Need to Do
I get a little irritated when I see misleading online ads telling folks that in order to become a SWAT team member, they must enroll in their high priced university. Well the truth is that’s a big fat lie. You don’t need to go to a costly university in order to join the Special Weapons and Tactics unit. In fact, you don’t even need a college degree to tell you the truth. There are a lot of misconceptions concerning how to become a SWAT team officer. So I decided to set the record straight once and for all.
First of all, SWAT team officers are the best of the best police officers. They are an elite group of individuals who are in superb physical condition, and are very skilled in the art of combat. They are very skilled in what they do as they spend a lot of time, and energy training. Now here’s how be part of the SWAT team.
First of all let’s tackle some of these myth about how to get into the Special Weapons and Tactics unit. Some poor souls believe that you can simply walk into any police department and interview for the SWAT team. Then there’s another set of folks who believe that you must have military background or some sort of specialized degree like a criminal justice degree in order to be SWAT.
Sorry but it’s not that simple. Here’s the truth, In order to become a part of the specialized weapons and tactics team, you will have to go through the process of getting hired as a police officer, and then once you’ve completed your rookie year, then and only then you can apply to the SWAT team. So the bottom-line is you’ll have to go through the hiring process just like any other applicant. That means you must pass the police oral board interview, polygraph test, and the psychological evaluation exam just like anybody else.
In conclusion, if you want to become a police officer, and later a SWAT team member as quickly as possible the only thing you need to worry about is getting a top score on theOral Board Interview.
