The Sony Ericsson Satio – the King of Smartphone Kings
The highly anticipated Sony Ericsson Satio is leaping out of its mythical speculative cocoon into the real world soon, September being the likeliest. Announced early this year, the new Sony Ericsson Satio (also codenamed Idou during its development stage) sits at the very top of the touchscreen pecking order with a triumphant haughty grin over its competing smartphone pack.
The Saito has all the leading edge features we’ve come to expect form a high end smartphone. With the Omnia HD from Samsung in the 12-megapixel camera phone markets, the Satio overshadows just about every smartphone competitor in its flagship class. Here’s why.
Smartphone Firsts
This is the first camera smartphone to have a 12-megapixel snapper resolution. This pushes the envelope further out for camera mobile phones in the market. Expect this level of camera phone resolution to start flooding the market soon enough. That doesn’t end there. The Satio’s exquisite CyberShot camera is aided with touchfocus and autofocus a xenon flash and LED video flash, a face and smile recognition and shutter activation, geo-tagging and boasts of VGA video recording at a film-grade 30 frames per second motion resolution.
This is Sony Ericsson’s first foray into the Symbian S60 platform making the Satio its first smartphone on that OS. It is rumored to be a tactical decision on the part of Sony Ericsson executives in order to bring out the Satio to market faster than if it developed its older platform with all the promised features it now has.
Outstanding Features
The Satio is a Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and dual band UMTS and a tri-band 3G/HSDPA smartphone running on the Symbian OS. It’s got the flagship bulk and heft weighing 126 grams which is quite understandable for a feature-rich smartphone handset that gives it a solid feel as well. Reading its technical data sheet reveals it to be just as impressive inside as it is outside. Here are the more remarkable ones.
- It sports a 3.5” TFT Touchscreen display with a 24-bit 16-million color depth, making the Satio among the few touchscreen smartphones with outstanding displays. An accelerometer sensor is there for automatic landscape or portrait display that goes according to the handset orientation.
- It’s got a generous 256 MB of internal memory, one of the most ample out there. No more proprietary Sony Memory Sticks. The Satio now supports the more economical and popular microSD format which is hot-swappable up to 32Gb memory. Oh, and its package contains an 8 GB card.
- A multimedia experience is nothing less than what we’ve taken for granted mobile phone from Sony Ericsson as a leading entertainment phone out there.
A Flagship among Flagship Touchscreens
A bit larger than its Xperia, the Satio has the looks and the features to be the best Sony Ericsson smartphone to hit the market.
