I am planning a camping trip to Yosemite with a group of 20 friends. What all do I need ?
I have NEVER camped before. What equipment would I need ? What are the safety precautions ? How to avoid bears ?
how to cook ? what stuff do I need to take ? Any specific advice to a first time camper ?? Any info will be appreciated !
Regards,
Avi
Sleeping bag, ground cloth (plastic sheet) tent, pillow, poncho, propane or butane stove are the easiest to cook with. Dish pan for washing dishes, dish soap, dish towel and cloth. Pans and utensils for cooking, a large coffee pot to heat water for washing dishes. Paper towels, paper plates, unbreakable plates. spoons forks knives. A cooler, ice, emergency water for drinking. Jumper cables. Leather gloves to protect you hands when cooking on a camp fire, and a small shovel to manage the fire. A bow saw (like a pruning saw to cut wood with, if cutting allowed, and a hatchet to split kindling. A fire bucket or a fire extinguisher. Portable camp fire grate. Bring a boy scout with the rank of first class or higher to help you. Bring toilet paper in case the camp bathroom is out.
Store all food or anything that smells in containers in your car, or in a bear bag suspended from 2 trees. Oh yeah, rope. By the way bears do climb trees. Some will dive off the tree and take your bear bag down with them. These are called kamikaze bears.
Camera and film. Spare clothes, extra garbage bags for keeping things dry. A claw hammer to remove stuck tent stakes.
Flash light, extra batteries, wood matches stored in a ziplock bag or some kind of water proof container. First aid kit. Sewing kit, and good ole’ duct tape for emergency repairs.
Large stackable rubbermaid containers work well for storing and transporting camp supplies, dry goods, and some of the stuff listed above.
Bring a smile, and have fun.
